Andrea believes that the creative process begins by letting go of preconceived ideas. She credits Betty Edwards' book Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain for providing a glossary of terms that deepened her understanding of drawing. She also acknowledges Mona Brooks, whose books offer a visual vocabulary that demystifies the act of drawing and breaks down the stigma that some people simply “can’t draw.”
Art and creativity have been scientifically shown to help heal unhealthy states of mind. For Andrea, creativity is a way to access and release inner emotions through the act of making something original. She brings together her formal education in visual arts and art history, along with her life experiences, to inform and inspire her work.
